
Improvement of Learning and Teaching in Mathematics and Science Grants Available to University Faculty
Application Deadlines:
May 1st, August 1st, and Nov 1st
The South East Ohio Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science
(SEOCEMS) invites proposals for improving learning and teaching in
university mathematics and science, with a desire for strengthening the
connections between content and pedagogy through investigation. The
SEOCEMS mission includes building stronger connections between schools
and universities to result in improved programs and greater recruitment
into mathematics and science, including improved teacher preparation for
those subjects. Collaboration among Arts & Science and Education
faculty, and/or graduate students is encouraged.
The grants may range up to $5,000 for single projects that may extend to
18 months. No Indirect Costs are permitted. Recipients are expected
to investigate and assess the effectiveness of proposed activities, and
disseminate results in collaboration with the SEOCEMS. Grant funds may
be used in various ways such as to purchase equipment or supplies,
support travel or cover additional expenses that are essential to the
proposed investigation. The grant recipient will be regarded as the
"owner" of the items purchased upon completion of the grant-funded
project. Priority will be given to collaborative projects and with
favor for those projects likely to result in a presentation or paper.
Electronic submission of proposals in MS Word will be accepted by the application deadlines.
Proposal contents:
Cover Sheet with the Investigator's:
- Name, Title and Affiliation
- Mailing Address
- Area Code and Phone Number
- Email Address
Project Description (up to 5 pages) to include:
- Purpose and Rationale
- Investigative Process to be used
- Description of Activities with Timeline
- Plan for Assessing a Project's Effectiveness
- Plan for Disseminating Findings
- Budget with Explanation/Justification of requested funds
All awards will require a written summary of findings suitable for posting to the SEOCEMS website (www.seocems.org)
within 30 days of the project�s conclusion. Grant recipients are
encouraged to present or publish their results through appropriate
venues, and the SEOCEMS may be able to provide additional support for
these professional activities.
