Professional Organizations

Northeast Center
http://www2.uakron.edu/cci/NEOCEx/
Aims: Four universities will form a partnership and collaborate with the Ohio Resource Center to leverage existing strengths in science and mathematics education to engage two critical populations - college faculty and middle school teachers in science and mathematics - in inquiry teaching and learning. These populations provide essential foundations of student learning and represent critical points at which failure may have a profound impact upon students' persistence and career choices related to science and mathematics.

Northwest Center
http://www.nwocenter.org
Aims: To begin new initiatives on and off campus, to recruit pre-service teachers, to improve preparation of pre-service teachers, to improve retention of in-service teachers, to provide leadership development for school administrators, to provide professional development to higher education faculty, to expand research, and to further community/business partnerships through internships, community study groups, graduate programs suited to teachers' academic and life-style needs, and opportunities for postdoctoral fellows in mathematics and science.

West-Central Center
http://www.wright.edu/excel/
Aims: Increase the human resources to support higher education and school districts as they deliver high quality science and mathematics education from precollege through graduate preparation. Recruit, prepare, and retain science and mathematics teachers in grades 7-12 and increase the capacity to prepare science and mathematics teachers through collaborative partnerships. Establish systemic models of recruitment of non-traditional students to teacher education, successful induction and retention of teachers into the profession, and produce leaders in science and mathematics education.

Southwest Center
http://www.excellentscimath.org
Aims: The mission of the Southwest Ohio Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education is to improve the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in the region. To fulfill its mission, partnerships will be developed within and between area colleges and universities, school districts, the Ohio Resource Center, informal science and mathematics educators, business and industry, professional organizations, and the larger community to combine and amplify resources and insights. The partners will collaborate to identify and prioritize needs in the region and respond by developing and sharing approaches to better educate all students (K-16) with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes in science and mathematics to explore and qualify for careers and full participation as citizens in a highly technological society.

Evaluation & Assessment Center for M/S Education
http://www.ohioeval.muohio.edu
Aims: Provide expertise and services in delivering reliable and valid information concerning the outcomes of mathematics and science education efforts and activities to state agencies, Centers of Excellence, higher education institutions, school districts, regional and local professional development centers, and informal science/mathematics education groups.
